It's the weekend! That means it's time to snuggle up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and the remote in hand. If you're in need of some fresh films to spice up your night, here are some impressive Netflix releases you can stream at the click of a button.

1. Mudbound (2017)

A drama set in Mississippi in a time divided by World War II, Mudbound follows two families (one white, one black) as they face the social constructs of their hometown. The film was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography.

2. Beasts of No Nation (2015)

The civil war in West Africa forces a young boy to join a unit of mercenary soldiers. The movie's penetrating look into the violent world of child soldiers will leave you shaken. Beast of No Nations has won an Independent Spirit Award and been nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA award.

3. Imperial Dreams (2014)

A 21-year-old man has just been released from prison, and he's ready to make a better life for himself and his son. However, that's not easy when they live in a community filled with crime, poverty, and gangs. If you're looking for a movie that's a little undervalued and ultimately uplifting, check out Imperial Dreams tonight.

4. First They Killed My Father (2017)

This harrowing tale follows a little girl who struggles to survive as Cambodia falls into a terrifying political situation. She was torn from her family at a young age, and now, she must find a way to live under Khmer Rouge's reign. Directed by Angelina Jolie and based on the book by Loung Ung, First They Killed My Father is not for the faint of heart.

5. The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)

Paul Rudd, Craig Roberts, and Selena Gomez star in this inspirational film about a young boy with muscular dystrophy and his caretaker, who wants to show him how to live his dreams in the real world. If there's one film on Netflix that's underrated when it comes to its wit and heart, it's probably this one.

6. To the Bone (2017)

Ellen has been dealing with anorexia nervosa for a long time, but when she finally enters an unconventional treatment program at the age of 20, she's able to make friendships and discoveries that might help her start out on a new path. To the Bone is difficult to watch at points, but also full of meaning and humor.

7. A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018)

This film focuses on Doug Kenney (played by Will Forte), the man who helped found a comedy empire back in the 1970s. Delightfully witty and entertaining, A Futile and Stupid Gesture highlights Kenney's triumphs and failures while painting him as the pop culture icon he truly was.
