Hyer Runs with Shoes for Orphan Soles

For many of the children in orphanages around the world, new shoes are a constant and urgent need.  Hyer Elementary fourth graders chose Shoes for Orphan Soles as their school-wide fall community service project November 5th through 9th.  Under the guidance of Hyer Counselor Linde Thompson, the fourth graders worked hard to promote the charity, including: making posters, decorating collection boxes, writing scripts for the announcements, and performing skits for classrooms.  The Hyer students responded in droves by donating hundreds of new shoes, socks and shoe laces.    Shoes for Orphan Souls is the largest humanitarian aid project of Buckner International, providing new shoes and socks to orphans and vulnerable children in the United States and throughout the world.  Since 1999, more than 2.3 million pairs of new shoes and socks have been distributed to children in 74 countries.
