Mercy Street Unveils Soccer Field for West Dallas Youth Athletes

On the morning of May 17th, West Dallas community members and partners gathered to celebrate the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the new soccer field at the Mercy Street Sports Complex. Texas State Senator Royce West, Mercy Street Founder Trey Hill, Texas Capital Bank CEO Keith Cargill, FC Dallas Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, and Energy Transfer Partners Executive Vice President Chris Curia spoke vehemently about the current and future impact of the field on young athletes and the families of West Dallas.

“After watching this property sit unused for years, a dream was birthed,” says Trey Hill, Mercy Street’s founder and visionary. “I envisioned a first-class recreational sports complex built specifically for my friends in West Dallas - a place they could be proud of, a place worthy of this great community.”

The supporters of this massive project benefiting the West Dallas community include: Energy Transfer Partners, FC Dallas, Texas Capital Bank, Dallas Housing Authority, and the Rees-Jones Foundation. “We are blessed as a community to have leaders with dreams that we can all participate in, and pass along dreams to these kids,” says Keith Cargill of Texas Capital Bank. “We share a vision that breaks racial and social boundaries.”

Chris Curia of Energy Transfer Partners shares, “We believe that developing kids through sports and teaching them good values, how to win and how to lose, is really critical.” And according to Clark Hunt of Dallas, “This is as good a sports complex as there is anywhere in the city of Dallas...This complex will be an incredible asset to this community.”

In the words of Senator Royce West, a vigorous advocate for the southern sector of Dallas for the past 26 years, “This is what community is all about - bringing the best partners together.”

The Sports Complex fields will be essential in allowing Mercy Street to better serve West Dallas youth athletes by offering a space to learn the basic fundamentals of sports while promoting a fun, safe and competitive environment for kids of every level of ability. Currently, 480 West Dallas youth and 81 volunteer coaches are participating in the spring 2018 Mercy Street Sports season.
