A fire broke out in the detached garage of a Highland Park residence on Thursday afternoon.

Local firefighters responded to a call from the homeowner about the fire at 2:15 p.m. and arrived on the scene in the 4500 block of Belfort Place to see smoke coming from the single-story garage building, said Lance Koppa, the public information officer for the Highland Park DPS.

Upon their arrival, the firefighters were able to distinguish the fire, and there were no reported injuries to them or the resident, Koppa said.

"The fire appears at this time to have been caused by an aromatic lamp, which was knocked over and ignited some nearby paint equipment," Koppa said.

This detached garage fire follows another one that happened in Highland Park on Sunday.

4:51 p.m. Update: Lance Koppa just sent out a media release about the situation, which can be read below.

"At 2:15 p.m. Highland Park Department of Public Safety (HPDPS) received a 911 call where a resident reported that his detached garage was on fire-the location was in the 4500 block of Belfort Pl. First officers to arrive on scene reported that smoke could be seen from the street.  University Park Fire Department was contacted for automatic assistance on scene. Dallas Fire Rescue was called to provide fill-in assistance for Highland Park DPS.

Firefighters on scene attacked the fire from the main entryway to the garage on the west side of the structure. The fire was contained in the west end of the garage with no damage reported to a neighbor’s garage on the east side. No injuries have been reported. The garage was severely damaged but some contents on the east end of the garage were salvaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The homeowner reported that an aromatic lamp turned over and ignited paint products near the lamp."
