Ground spraying for mosquitoes is scheduled to happen in the Town of Highland Park on Thursday between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the area between the Dallas North Tollway and Preston Road because a person tested positive for West Nile virus.

Here is a press release about the Town's ground spraying efforts from Lance Koppa, the public information officer for the Highland Park Department of Public Safety:

"Dallas County Health and Human Services has confirmed a human case of West Nile Virus infection in Highland Park from patient symptoms that were first reported on September 23rd, 2012. The patient was not hospitalized. In response, Dallas County Health and Human Services will conduct ground spraying measures for the west portion of Highland Park tonight, Thursday October 4th, 2012, between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The areas of Highland Park to be sprayed are between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway. In the event of rain or wind speeds greater than 10 miles per hour the spraying will be rescheduled.

Since August 20th, 2012, there have been no positive mosquito samples for West Nile Virus in Highland Park. That said, residents are reminded of the methods to defend against West Nile: 1) dress in long sleeves and pants when outside during dusk and dawn hours, 2) survey yards and drain areas of standing water, 3) stay indoors during dusk and dawn hours when mosquitoes are most active, and 4) apply insect repellent per manufacturers recommendations.

Residents may call Town Hall at 214-521-4161 to report any standing water in public rights-of-way or on vacant property. Standing water that is either located by a Town employee or reported to us at Town Hall will be inspected. The Town will continue to spray park areas on Friday mornings and treat other areas that have been reported by residents."
