An exciting finish to a tight game Tuesday night at Highlander Field House. After losing 3 starters to injury over the weekend in Burkburnett, the Men’s Varsity Basketball Team lost one more last night when leading scorer, Will Enzor, was unable to play due to illness. The short-handed Scots prevailed, however, against a big St. Marks team with 21 points from Alex Staffaroni, 19 points from Reilly Seebold and 12 from Dillon Powell.  Jonathan Naylor and Jack Palms grabbed a couple of key rebounds late in the game. With the Scots holding onto a 1 point lead, Palms rebounded a St. Mark’s missed shot and was fouled immediately. He made 1 free throw and 00:28 left to push the lead to 2. Again Highland Park’s defense stiffened to get a key stop when Staffaroni came up with a steal and was immediately fouled with under 00:15 left in the game. He calmly sank both ends of the 1 and 1 for the final margin of victory: 59-55. Jack Feld and Bo Crawford were called up from JV Gold to add much-needed bench strength prior to the game and both turned in a solid performance.

The Scots are now 10-3 on the year. The team will be tested again on Friday at home against national powerhouse Simeon High School from Chicago.    The new game time is 4.30 Friday afternoon.

Other results from Tuesday night's game: HPHS JV defeated St. Marks 75-18. HPHS Freshman defeated St. Marks 63-25.
