The Highland Park Harvey R. “Bum” Bright Library has created a new print collection of K - 12 materials to assist caregivers with their student’s education. The collection was developed in response to the many new education styles that families are having to navigate.

“Whether engaging in remote learning from home, participating in a traditional classroom setting, or homeschooling,” said Kortney Nelson, Town Librarian for Highland Park, “We want caregivers to know that their Library has the resources in print and digital access to help them with their child’s education.” The Education Collection has titles Highland Park Library cardholders may borrow to help explore and expand their knowledge of various topics covered in elementary, middle, and high school courses. From children’s encyclopedias to understanding Common Core Curriculum to PreCalculus guides, the collection is a great resource for understanding the foundational principles taught in classes.

This physical collection is a new addition to the many online resources the Library has available. For instance, with HelpNOW, students in kindergarten to early college can access a live, online tutor to assist with a variety of subjects. In addition, students can find scholarly articles and primary resource material from the many databases available through the Library’s website, http://www.hptx.org/144/Databases.

The Library staff will be hosting online presentations of the databases and HelpNOW tutoring in September for students and caregivers that wish to learn more about using these services. Databases for elementary level students will be presented Wednesday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m., and then repeated on Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m. Databases for Secondary level students will be presented Wednesday, September 16, at 10:00 a.m., and then repeated on Thursday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m. Registration is required by contacting Holly Russell, Adult Services Librarian.
