HP Library Gets To Know Santa

The Town of Highland Park Harvey R. “Bum” Bright Library is getting in the holiday spirit with a special presentation focusing on the history of Santa Claus. This presentation is open to the public, and will be held at the Highland Park Library in Town Hall on Thursday, December 12, at 5:30 p.m. No reservations required to attend. This program is not recommend for the very young; but is for those that wish to glimpse into the many myths, legends, and facts that make up the jolly old elf we all know and love today.

Adult Services Librarian Holly Russell will be leading the presentation, showcasing many images and stories about Santa Claus and how his history has changed over the many years. “I believe that folks are going to be amused with the many facets of Santa’s history as I am, “ said Russell. “He has undergone so many transformations over the centuries that he no longer resembles his earliest depictions.” Russell has spent several years reading and learning about Santa during her time as a curator and historian. Her research has led her to uncover many interesting facts and histories that are not commonly known. The presentation looks at the many artistic renderings and interpretations of this famous man from the past to present day.
