“Glowtopia” - Art and Science Merge at This All-Ages Event

Now open on Swiss Avenue, The Fab Lab at WorkChops is an innovative approach to the makerspace model that has become popular in tech and maker circles.

WorkChops is the latest iteration of the former East Dallas science enrichment venue, The Lab at Lakewood. Started simply as a Lake Highlands party room in 2010, the lab has taken on a life of its own and garnered Founder, Mess Wright, a following of Dallas families who love science and technology and want their children to have guided experiences in both.

The concept of a makerspace that also stresses arts and humanities came about when Mess Wright, realized that “while there is currently a surplus of STEAM enrichment providers in Dallas, there is still a need for safe and appealing spaces that welcome young children and offer high quality, truly hands-on programming for both kids and adults.”

“Most open-to-the-public makerspaces are made with adult males in mind, but I know that women and children can and should be welcomed into a similar environment,” says Wright.

WorkChops is already open for business and will hold its Glowtopia-themed events on October 24, 25, and 26. All three nights will feature a local artist teaching painting techniques while Wright and her staff create fun, interactive black light science experiments with a photo booth where guests can document their creations in real time. Dinner is included in ticket prices, which range from $40-$85.

WorkChops is located at 3122 Swiss Avenue, just a few blocks from the Deep Ellum DART stop. The venue also has a lot where parking is complimentary.
