Thanks to a generous grant from La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas to the Friends of the Highland Park Library, the Highland Park Harvey R. “Bum” Bright Library has curated five (5) TECH Kits as part of a new Tweens, Teens, and Technology (T3) collection. The TECH Kits feature materials to construct robots, computers, and electrical circuits as well as technology to learn coding and computer programming through creative pursuits. 

The following TECH kits are available for check out: 

  • mBot Robot Kit – Make a robot at home! This DIY robot kit provides a meaningful way to practice construction and programming. Get hands-on experience with robotics and electronic sensors with this modifiable robot. Two of these kits are available.

  • LittleBits Kit - An intro to coding that teaches through making and playing games with a system of electronic building blocks that snap together.

  • Ozobot Evo Kit – Evo is a pocket-sized coding robot with infinite possibilities. Practice coding while programming Evo either through an online app or color-coding markers. 

  • Raspberry Pi Kit - Raspberry Pi is a credit-card sized computer a user builds herself. Learn coding and computer skills while programming Raspberry Pi in languages like Python or Scratch.

  • Turing Tumble Kit - A revolutionary new game where players build mechanical computers powered by marbles to solve logic puzzles. 

The grant from La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas also provided funding for classroom sets of materials for use in Library programming. Tweens and teens can attend monthly events and experiment with Circuit Scribe conductive ink pens for drawing electrical circuits, Sphero programmable robots, and virtual reality headsets purchased with the funding.
