Providence students celebrate Texas Day. Providence Class Three students celebrate the Lone Star State’s independence by marching through the halls of Providence singing Texas songs and waiving our state flag!

On March 2, Texans celebrate Texas Independence Day, the day that the state won its independence from Mexico and became a republic in the 19th century. Sam Houston Day is also the same day, commemorating the birthday of the man who led Texans to victory over the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto. At Providence Christian School, Class Three students learn all about this Texas history, including memorizing and reciting William B. Travis’ letter that he wrote during Santa Anna’s siege of the Alamo.

On Texas Independence Day, Class Three students celebrated the Lone Star State’s independence by marching through the halls of Providence singing Texas songs and waving the state flag with exuberance and authority. In April, Providence and West Dallas Community School students will have a day-long history day—Texas Day—where they will dress up and learn more about their heritage.

Across town, more than 80 Providence alumni students gathered at Sarah and Elizabeth Johnson’s home to celebrate Texas Independence Day while reconnecting with their Providence friends.

In Boston, Providence graduates Zach Heard and Matt Ashbaugh celebrated Texas Independence Day at a Pat Green concert in Boston where they both now attend Harvard Business School.
