Scots Beat Forney in Tie Breaker Game

SCOTS BEAT FORNEY 66-51 TO LOCK UP SECOND SEED FOR PLAYOFFS

The Men’s Highland Park Men’s Varsity Basketball Team looked like a team ready for playoff basketball on Friday night. Forney and Highland Park finished the District 15 5A regular season with identical 10-4 records. The game on Friday night was to determine the number 2 seed for the district. The Scots added an exclamation point with an impressive 66-51 win averaging an earlier overtime loss to the Jackrabbits.

The game followed a script that has been common for recent Scots’ games. The first half was very tight with HP taking a 28-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. It was again a big second half that allowed the Scots to pull away for the convincing win.

Finn Corwin led the scoring with his season high of 22 points. Cade Wagner had 14 points and 8 rebounds, Alex Staffaroni added 11 and Will Enzor had 9. The Scots’ defense gave  Forney trouble most of the night finishing the game with team totals of 10 steals, 18 deflections and 2 blocked shots.

The win brings the Scots record to 22-11 overall and a final district record of 11-4.

Highland Park heads to the playoffs on Tuesday night. The game will be be played at Longview High School in Longview at 7:30pm against Texas High of Texarkana.
