Scots on 3!

In their 13th trip to the State Tournament (6th in the last 8 years), the Highland Park Lady Scots Soccer Program proved their dominance yet again.  After a very tough playoff run, facing some of the top teams in the state, the Lady Scots won the Regional Championship on April 13th after a 4 hour rain delay.  The community and Highland Park High School gave the Lady Scots a rousing sendoff on Wednesday April 17th as they headed to Georgetown.  Once there, the Lady Scots quickly took care of Humble Kingwood Park with a 4-1 win in the State Semifinal game on Thursday April 18th.

On Saturday, April 20th, the Lady Scots faced Mansfield Legacy in the 5A State Championship game.  The scoreless first half was a tense battle.  In the 2nd half, the Lady Scots came out swinging when, in the first 3 minutes, Presley Echols crossed to Megan O’Neal who put a sliding kick into the net.  Just a few minutes later, with over 30 minutes left in the 2nd half, Sydney Cox connected with 5A Tournament MVP Maja Davison for a 2-0 lead.

Strong and consistent defending by the middle and back line and some incredible saves by keeper Michelle Wiegn kept the score 2-0, for another Lady Scots shut out and a record breaking championship win.  The Lady Scots are the only high school program (boys or girls) to win 7 state championships.  In addition, the team’s 159 season goals sets a new school record for HP girls soccer.

It was an incredible ending to an amazing season that saw a team with 14 new players come together, Bounce Back, and Bring it Home!  Congratulations to the Lady Scots players and coaches!
