Portal to 'Another World' in Klyde Warren Park

Have you seen the gold shipping container sitting in Klyde Warren Park? Did you know that when you enter, you will be connected to people in an identical container somewhere else in the world? And, Park Cities own, Amy Bean was instrumental in bringing the Portal to Dallas.

The Dallas Portal is part of a global public art exhibit. Portals are gold shipping containers equipped with immersive audiovisual technology. When you enter a Portal, you come face-to-face with someone in a distant Portal live and full-body, as if in the same room.

Portals are used for art, research, language practice, cultural exchange, shared meals, dance and more. At a time when social media is driving us into silos, Portals allow participants to connect with people they would otherwise never meet. Portals prompt us to seek out those moments to converse with strangers unlike ourselves – to put down the iPhone or laptop and engage the person next to us. There are over 40 Portals operating across the world.

In the Portal, a dancer in the USA can move to music played live in Afghanistan and a yogi in India can lead a class with students all around the world. Thanks to a group of innovative funders, visitors can participate in this experiential, global public art exhibit. The Portal is open in Klyde Warren Park Wednesday-Sunday until May 20th. A daily schedule and connection information can be found online. The Portal can also be reserved for a group event, training, performance, meal or anything else you can dream up!
