Shelton senior Deja Jackson is talented on the basketball court and on the stage. Despite major scheduling conflicts and the wall that typically exists between Athletics and Fine Arts, Jackson worked in concert with Shelton's Basketball Coach Kevin Burnett and Shelton’s Director of Fine Arts Anné Hughes so that Jackson could have an important role in both the basketball program and the Winter musical Shrek. To be both a top-three scorer and a leading lady is not possible at a typical school, but at Shelton, teachers, coaches and students frequently collaborate to make it work. Jackson played Donkey in Shrek and earned 1st Team All District Honors in Basketball. Balancing her various interests with classwork and a job, Jackson has worked with Shelton to discover parts of herself that she did not know existed.
