Lambert's employees assist Emma, Filippa and Ameli

Highland Park Library concluded its 2013 “Dig Into Reading” children’s summer reading program with a “garden party” event on Friday, August 2.

In the lush shade of Prather Park, children enjoyed gardening-themed activities and snacks to celebrate a summer spent digging into good books and harvesting new ideas. They made veggie prints, ladybug hats, and paper flowers, and dug for potatoes.

After snacking on flower-shaped sandwiches, garden veggies and gummy-worm topped cupcakes, each child prepared a potted plant to take home, thanks to materials and assistance graciously provided by Lambert’s Landscaping.

Contributing to the success of this event was volunteer assistance by the  mothers and sons of Young Men’s Service League. The Library also wishes to thank our 2013 summer events sponsors Christine McKenny/Dave Perry-Miller and Associates, and employees of the Highland Park Parks Department for providing tables, chairs, generators and ice-filled coolers at each of the summer’s events.

Children may turn in their reading logs at the Library through Friday, August 30.
