Dallas County Health and Human Services has confirmed a positive test for West Nile Virus from a Mosquito sample taken from the eastside of Highland Park. In response to this positive mosquito sample, in accordance with the Town’s Mosquito Control Policy and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services, The Town of Highland Park will conduct ground spraying measures in the areas east of Preston Road to the Town limits on Thursday, July 25, Friday, July 26 and Sunday, July 28. The ground spraying each of these nights will begin at 10 p.m. and will be completed by 6 a.m., weather permitting. Refer to the attached map: the areas of Highland Park to be sprayed are Quadrants C and D.

West Nile is a disease that is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitos become infected when they feed upon the blood of an infected bird. The infected mosquitos can transmit the virus to other humans and animals.

We encourage residents inspect their property and be mindful of stagnant or standing water, like flower pot basins, bird baths, wading pools and pet dishes. Change out the water several times per week in these areas or eliminate standing water altogether to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs. Areas where water is circulating, like swimming pools and outdoor fountains, should be maintained on a regular basis.

For additional information about Mosquito Control specific to Highland Park, please visit our website. Any standing or stagnant water in public areas within the Town should be reported to the Town at 214-521-4161, or online under “HP4U Resident Connection.” Information from Dallas County Health and Human Services can be found on their website, or call at 214-819-2100.
