Yesterday, Highland Park police responded to two daytime car burglaries (between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.), the smash and grab variety, in the 4800 block of Abbott Avenue. In both cases, a handbag was stolen from the vehicle. At this time, we do not have a suspect vehicle or suspect description. Our investigators are trying to determine if the offenses in Highland Park are related to recent car burglaries in surrounding cities.

Handbags or any bag that appears to contain valuables are clearly the targeted item. Please take these items with you when you leave your vehicle or lock them in a secure location.

Other community news - the recent rainfall is a reminder to inspect your property for areas that contain standing water as these are prime areas for mosquito breeding grounds. Clogged rain gutters, flower pot basins, and low areas of your yard may collect water. It’s important to treat and drain these areas where water may collect and become stagnant. Outside of your property, if you notice any public rights-of-way that contain standing water, let us know by completing this online Town notification form. Our Town Services Manager continually updates the Town website with helpful information related to mosquito control and water conservation. The information can be found on the left hand side of the screen here.
