At Highland Park Middle School, Mrs. Janik’s 8th grade TAG students wrote patriotic essays for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot’s Pen contest, and 18 of the 65 student essays were selected to be entered in the contest. Cole Munoz’s essay won first place in the Grapevine VFW Post and third in district, Isaac Moon’s essay won second in the Grapevine VFW Post, and Boone Bonfield’s essay won third in the Grapevine VFW Post. Each of the three boys received a certificate of achievement and a check as a token of the Post commander’s and affiliates’ appreciation for their efforts in portraying their patriotism.
