During the Golden Scots Reunion at Highland Park High School last weekend, HPISD Superintendent Dawson Orr spoke about all of the accomplishments that the high school has achieved in 2010 and 2011.

Long story short, HPHS has a lot of things to be proud of.

Here is a list of some of the school's successes that Dr. Orr mentioned during his speech at the reunion luncheon:

  • The Texas Education Agency has rated HPHS an "Exemplary" school, which is the highest rating a school can receive.
  • Newsweek magazine ranked HPHS at number 31 in its list of the top high schools in the country.
  • HPHS received the 2010 Texas Business & Education Coalition Honor Roll rating.
  • In 2010, HPHS had 1,043 students take 2,773 AP exams, and 64 percent scored a 3, 4 or 5. (A "5" is the highest possible score on an AP exam.)
  • The composite score by HPHS students on the 2011 ACT was 26.8. Their composite score on the 2011 SAT was 1786 — 622 in math, 593 in critical reading and 571 in writing.
  • Eleven HPHS students were named National Merit Semifinalists in 2011. Also, 35 students were named National Merit Commended Students.
  • During the 2010 to 2011 year, the HPHS science team won the UIL 4A State competition. This is the sixth consecutive UIL victory for the science team.
  • Four band students, four choir students and two orchestra students at HPHS were named All-State and performed at the Texas Music Educators' Association convention during the 2010 to 2011 school year.
  • The HPHS tennis team won the UIL 4A State Tournament during the 2010 to 2011 school year. It was the seventh time in eight years the team has won the tournament. Also, the team has won a total of 12 state titles.
  • The HPHS girls cross country team won the 4A state championship during the 2010 to 2011 year.
  • Finally, The Dallas Morning News named HPHS the 4A All-Sports winner for 2010 to 2011, which is the 23rd time in 27 years the school has received the award.
