Edgemere Staff Member With Residents

Residents at Edgemere, an SQLC retirement community, recently hosted a garage sale to raise funds for the local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Dozens of residents worked with Edgemere’s housekeeping department to gather a variety of furniture, home décor, books, clothing and other odds and ends to put out for sale. This is the third-annual garage sale hosted by residents exclusively for residents and staff members. Resident Ann Jobe has volunteered every year to help sort, price and sell the donated items.

“It’s very important to me that I support the Alzheimer’s Association because I have close friends and family who are living with Alzheimer’s,” said Jobe. “Helping to organize our community’s garage sale each year makes me feel like I’m doing my part to give back to a cause that’s close to the hearts of many residents at Edgemere.”

Despite the rain at this year’s garage sale fundraiser, which took place on Friday, July 15, residents raised nearly $1,500. The garage sale is one of several Edgemere-sponsored fundraising events which contribute to the community’s combined donation goal of $25,000 in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. Other community events included the Forget-Me-Not Gala, which raised $15,000, the ongoing event Casual for a Cause and the upcoming event Hoe Down, which includes a free barbeque dinner, refreshments, live music and horseback rides. The Hoe Down event raises nearly $8,000 each year. Fundraising events like the garage sale are part of Edgemere’s Masterpiece Living® program, a philosophy which embraces healthy living at any age and in all regards – physical, spiritual, social and mental.

“We are very proud of the residents of Edgemere who work tirelessly to support causes and organizations they believe in,” said John Falldine, managing director at Edgemere. “Residents like Ann Jobe are empathetic and compassionate, and we admire their dedication to helping fund the Alzheimer’s Association research.”
