The United Minds won 1st place in the Destination Imagination Regional Competition (held February 18) for the elementary level of the Fine Arts Challenge.

Team members include 4th graders Maxine Jordanoff, Eva Milby, Ivy Peikari, Melanie Tierney, Simi Tiwana, and Zoe Zaner.

Karen Tiwana and Karin Zaner serve as team leaders.

The Destination Imagination Program fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. Participants learn patience, flexibility, persistence, ethics, respect for others and their ideas, and the collaborative problem solving process.

This will be the second year in a row that the United Minds will represent University Park Elementary and HPISD in the Destination Imagination State Competition, which will be held April 7-9 in Lubbock.  Over 90 teams will compete for a chance to advance to the Destination Imagination Global Competition in May.
