Kid Art Dallas to Make Donation to HP Arts Based on Camp Enrollment This Summer

Kid Art Dallas, the creative art studio in Snider Plaza, has committed to donate 10 percent of all tuition received from art camps this summer to HP Arts for the 2017-18 school year.  The donation from Kid Art Dallas will be designated for art teacher requests in HPISD.

"At Kid Art we believe that supporting the arts is an investment in a healthier more expressive community," explained Tori Pendergrass, owner of Kid Art Dallas and a native of Highland Park. "The arts enliven public spaces and performances, and on an individual level they nourish, develop and enhance what it means to be human. The arts provide an avenue to develop children's confidence in creation, which in turn is an investment in future communities. The arts are essential to the proper function of our society."

Kid Art has expanded the scope of its students, offering new classes for students ages 2 - adult:

  • Mommy and Me - parent and child interact in a relaxed and supportive environment to create an art piece to be cherished forever.

  • Mom Art - a unique chance for camaraderie and spontaneity among developing adult artists while receiving specialized instruction.

  • Middle School Mini Camp - a two-day workshop exploring a specific technique or medium.

"Studies show that arts education plays a vital role in the development and academic success of students," said Dana Manley, 2016-17 HP Arts President. "Through the generosity of local businesses like Kid Art Dallas, as well as our parents, community members, and an annual grant from La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas, HP Arts is in its 30th year of funding teacher requests for the fine arts on all HPISD campuses." This year HP Arts is funding fine arts requests totaling more than $95,000 for musical instruments, equipment for theater, art and dance, as well as student workshops by professional authors, actors, dancers, musicians and clinicians.
