The Park Cities community is invited to learn about the history of Sudan and hear a first-hand account from Bol Deng Malual, who overcame inconceivable hardships to leave the country and start a new life in Dallas, at an event next week.

A special event titled "Discover Sudan: Friends of Lost Boys" is being hosted from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 at the First Unitarian Church of Dallas.

The speakers at the event will be Patricia Davis, a professor in the department of human rights at SMU; Bol Deng Malual, a former Sudanese "Lost Boy"; and Dawn West, the president of the Friends of Lost Boys DFW. They will be addressing the issues that caused thousands of children to leave Sudan and eventually end up in the United States. A question-and-answer session with the speakers will be hosted following their presentations.

Registration for the event costs $10 per person and can be done online through Feb. 24. People can register at the door on the day of the event for $15 if space is available, and only cash will be accepted at that time.

The Friends of Lost Boys DFW and First Unitarian's Project Africa will benefit from the event's registration proceeds.

In addition to the presentations, copies of Nancy Hanh's children's book One Lost Boy, which tells Malual's story, will be available for purchase at event.
