Genealogy at the University Park Public Library

Interested in your family history?  Have you ever wondered where your ancestors came from?  The University Park Public Library has resources to help!  Ancestry Library Edition, powered by Ancestry.com, is available for use on all library computers.

Library cardholders can research historical figures, build their family trees, and learn about their pedigree with Ancestry Library Edition.  This database offers an extensive and unique collection of billions of historical records that have been digitized, indexed and put online since 1996.  These digital records and documents, combined with user-friendly online search technologies and tools help customers with their research.  New historical content and research tools are regularly added.  To use Ancestry Library Edition, customers must use a library computer and log in using their University Park Public Library card number.

The library has also purchased updated new books on various topics in genealogy and has various pedigree and family tree charts available.

In addition to Ancestry Library Edition, the library will host speakers who are experts in genealogy.  The first speaker is genealogy librarian Cheryl Smith, who will offer “Genealogy 101: How to Get Started in Genealogy.”  This program will cover filling out a pedigree chart, where to find information, software suggestions, Internet sites, and more.  There will be time for questions and answers with Ms. Smith.  The program will be on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 6:30pm at the University Park Public Library.  The library is located at 8383 Plaza at Preston Center, Suite 200.
