On Thursday, February 25th YMCA Board Members, staff and volunteers along with University Park officials and the Adolfson & Peterson Construction team celebrated the topping out of the new YMCA facility on Preston Road. Construction has been underway since April 2015 on the New Moody Family YMCA in the Park Cities which will replace the original Park Cities Y built in 1951.

Before the final beam was lifted into place attendees had the opportunity to sign the beam with their families’ name, scripture or a personal message.  During the brief ceremony Park Cities Y Christian Initiatives Committee Chair Bill Zukoski offered an invocation and Park Cities YMCA Board of Management Chair, John Palms provided the countdown to the beam lift off.

The new YMCA scheduled to open in September will provide 58,500 square feet of amenities. The facility will have an indoor pool along with a therapy pool, gymnasium, expanded health and wellness space, locker rooms and lobby area along with a 300 space underground parking garage.  The Moody Family YMCA in the Park Cities will also be the first YMCA to with a Rise school program, which is focused on providing early childhood educational programs for children with and without developmental disabilities.

“Today’s ceremony marks another milestone in the journey to opening the new Moody Family YMCA,” said John Palms, Park Cities YMCA Board of Management Chair.  “We are extremely pleased with the progress on the project.  It is exciting to realize in just six short months we will have a state of the art YMCA, which can better serve the Park Cities community for generations to come.”
