Contest winners Evan Graeme and Joyce Jiang with Mayor and Mrs. Olin Lane and Janet Finegold of KidBiz.

Two local young artists have been selected as first and second place winners of the University Park Public Library's UP with Reading Poster Contest.  Evan Graeme, the first place artist, is a resident of University Park and a student at St. Mark's School of Texas.  Joyce Jiang, the second place artist, is a student at Armstrong Elementary.  Evan Graeme's poster will be used for posters, bookmarks, and database graphics for UP with Reading Summer Program.  Both posters will be on display at the library throughout the summer.

The contest was open to children up to 6th grade, and 16 young artists contributed posters.  Contest judges were Kelly Moock, of the Friends of the University Park Public Library; Steve Mace, the City of University Park's Community Information Officer; and Mayor and Mrs. Olin Lane.  KidBiz, located in Preston Center, donated backpacks for each of the winners.  All judges reported having a hard time choosing the top two because all of the entries were so good.   The University Park Public Library would like to thank everyone who participated in the contest; staff enjoyed seeing the artwork.

UP with Reading is the library's annual summer reading program, which encourages kids to read throughout the summer.  Registration for the program begins on June 6, 2015 and ends on July 25.  Participants can sign up online at www.uptexas.org/library, at the City of University Park's Fishing Derby on June 6, or in person at the library. UP with Reading features weekly family-friendly performances and incentives for young readers.  Briggs Freeman / Sotheby's International is the presenting sponsor and JDs Chippery and SMU's Office of Public Affairs.
