University Park ranks among the top 10 cities in the Southern United States for quality of life, according to one particular study.

On Numbers, which is a part of the American City Business Journals, ranked University Park as the No. 7 city for quality of life in the South in a study about American cities.

Only cities that have populations larger than 10,000 people were used in the study, which encompasses 1,145 cities in the 13 states that were selected for the southern region. The study criteria for judging quality of life included looking at each city's economy, cost of living, education system, housing stocks and traffic.

Eight cities in the Metroplex ranked in the top 50 cities in the South, according to the study:

• No. 3: Southlake
• No. 7: University Park
• No. 10: Colleyville
• No. 13: Murphy
• No. 21: Flower Mound
• No. 30: Keller
• No. 31: Coppell
• No. 34: Frisco
