For the first time in history, the U.S. will soon have more older adults than children and more people at extreme old age than ever before. As both the proportion of older people and the length of life increase throughout the world, it’s important to understand the resources available for those who need more assistance with everyday life. One local provider of senior care, The Plaza at Edgemere, was recently recognized as one of the best nursing homes in the country by U.S. News & World Report, a leading provider of service news and information that improves the quality of life of its readers by focusing on health, personal finance, education, travel, cars, news and opinion.Edgemere is sponsored by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC), which operates four other communities in Texas.
“It is such an honor to be named to this list of the best communities in the U.S.,” said John Falldine, managing director of Edgemere. “It is a testament to our entire staff and their devotion to our residents on a daily basis. This reaffirms our mission and validates our belief that we truly are one of the best communities in the nation.”
U.S. News & World Report compiled its list by reviewing community scores given by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Nearly 16,000 nursing homes across the country were considered for this list and only 3,800 made the cut. Three categories are scored based on a five-star rating and include health inspections, nurse staffing and quality measures. To make this list, a community must receive an overall five-star rating
“We want to make sure people are aware of what is out there, and this list helps narrow down that search,” said Falldine. “People need to know that if may not be if more help will be needed for themselves or a loved one, but when. Planning ahead is so important, and you can never start too early.”
