Highland Park High School's head football coach Randy Allen is doing well after having surgery to fix his ankle, which broke in three places during a car accident last month.

Helen Williams, the director of communications for HPISD, said Allen had nine pins and a plate put in his right ankle during the surgery on Dec. 2. Allen is currently recovering from the operation, and he is "on the mend" at home.

"He is doing much better," Williams said. "But he will be in a brace for a long time."

Williams said that Allen is expected to be back at work after the holidays.

Allen was sitting in the front passenger seat, and his wife was driving their vehicle when they were rear-ended on the way back to Dallas after the Scots' playoff game against Tyler John Tyler on Nov. 25 in Waco.
