The Hockaday rowers return to the dock after their winning row.

The Hockaday School rowing team had an outstanding showing at the Texas Rowing Championships in Austin on April 18, 2015. The Second varsity quad (boat with four people) of Elizabeth Michel, Manisha Ratakonda, Teal Cohen and Emma Winson, placed first, winning Hockaday's first state title in the last several years. The double of Teal Cohen and Manisha Ratakonda also placed second in their event.

"We are so happy to see the hard work of these girls pay off," said Coach Tim McAllister. "They have come a long way in the past three years. With only two graduating seniors, the foundation for the future is certainly here."

Nearly every one of Hockaday's entries qualified for their finals over the 1,000 meter course on Lady Bird Lake in Austin. The majority of the competition comes from much larger club teams, making the results even more meaningful.

"It's a bit like David and Goliath," according to McAllister.

Members of the team will travel to Philadelphia May 14-16 to compete in the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the largest high school regatta in the world.
