Highland Park High School's girls cross country team had its first practice for the upcoming season on Monday at the track in Germany Park.

The girls varsity squad is the defending 4A State Champion, and the team is poised for another good year, having returned all of the runners that competed in last season's state meet.

This season will pose a new challenge for the Lady Scots, because the competition distance for 4A and 5A girls high school cross country teams in Texas has been increased from two miles to 5K.
