Here's an event that will be of interest to local children who like to fish: The City of University Park will be having its annual Children's Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to noon on June 9 at Caruth Park.
All of the children who participate must bring their own poles and bait, and the event will follow a "catch and release" policy, according to University Park's website. There will be awards given for the "largest and smallest fish caught."
In addition to the fishing competition, there will be door prizes and snacks for attendees.
Anyone who is interested in participating in the fishing derby can register in advance by calling (214) 987-5488. There will also be on-site registration on the day of the event.
