If you drove past the Plaza at Preston Center on the evening of May 24, you may have seen a crowd of people running in high heels in the area.

In an effort to encourage young adults to understand the risks of breast cancer and help prevent the disease through early detection methods, Tootsies hosted the 1st Annual Stiletto Stampede event from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that evening at the shopping center.

The event's participants ran a 100-yard dash in stilettos on Luther Lane between Westchester Drive and Preston Road to promote the fight against breast cancer, according to a news release about the Stampede. Money raised by the event was given to the Dallas County affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and rehab programs created by the nonprofit Stiletto Stampede organization. 

After the dash, Tootsies had a party for the participants, which had food and drinks from Urban Taco and music by DJ Jason Barnes.
