While promoting the fight against breast cancer, the first 1st Annual Stiletto Stampede at the Plaza at Preston Center will also try to set a world record for having the most people running in high heels at one time.

The Stampede, which is a 100-yard dash in stilettos, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on May 24 at the shopping center, and the dash will take place on Luther Lane between Westchester Drive and Preston Road

The purpose of the event is to "encourage young women and men to know and understand the risks of breast cancer and empower them to prevent the disease by utilizing overall Breast Self-Awareness through Early Detection, Screening Methods and Education," according to a news release about the event.

The Stampede's proceeds will benefit the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate and rehab programs created by the nonprofit Stiletto Stampede organization.

A post party will be held at Tootsies in the Plaza at Preston Center, following the dash.

Online registration for the event will be open through May 22 and costs $50, which will include a race tank, race bag, goodie bag and pass for the post party. Late registration can be done from noon to 7 p.m. on May 23 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 24 at Tootsies. There will also be on-site registration from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the day of the event.
