HPHS Ranked in Another Top 100 List

Recently, a U.S. News & World Report ranked Highland Park High School as the No. 92 public high school in the United States. Now, another report about the nation's high schools also has HPHS in the top 100.

Newsweek magazine released its own list of the best high schools in the country, and Highland Park was ranked No. 47.

"We are so proud of our students, teachers and supportive parents for their dedication to learning, which is clearly reflected in this honor," said HPHS principal Walter Kelly, according to an HP news release. "The criteria specified by Newsweek takes into account many measures of college readiness, and our students are hitting the mark. It is certainly an honor to be regarded among the top high schools in the country."

The criteria that Newsweek used to evaluate the schools were:

  • "Four-year on-time graduation rate (25%)"
  • "Percent of graduates accepted to college (25%)"
  • "Advanced Placement (AP) / International Baccalaureate (IB)/ Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) tests taken per student (25%)"
  • "Average SAT and ACT scores (10%)"
  • "Average AP/IB/AICE exam scores (10%)"
  • "AP/IB/AICE courses offered per student (5%)"

"Highland Park High School is the top comprehensive (open-enrollment) high school in Texas, according to Newsweek magazine's latest Top 100 list," according to the HP news release.
