A parade has been scheduled by the City of University Park and Town of Highland Park to honor the 2016 state champion Highland Park football and tennis teams. This community celebration will be a fun event for the entire family.

The parade will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 on the west side of the high school on Douglas Ave., and it will end at Goar Park. Both teams will be celebrated with a special program following the parade at the Goar Park Gazebo.

The parade will feature the football and tennis players and coaches, the Highlander Band, the Highland Belles, cheerleaders and Scotsmen, the Sparkling Scots, and members of the 1945, 1957 and 2005 state championship football teams. The 2016 football and tennis teams will sign autographs for young students after the Goar Park presentation.

Thanks to Sewell Dealerships for providing the parade vehicles, to Allie Beth Allman & Associates for sponsoring some parade giveaways, and to Royal Blue Grocery for providing hot chocolate at Goar Park.

The forecast calls for cold, but sunny weather during the parade. If the parade must be postponed, the district will communicate it through its text messaging and email systems, on its Facebook and Twitter feeds, and with a post on the front page of www.hpisd.org. If the parade is postponed, Saturday, Jan. 14 will serve as the backup date.

We look forward to seeing the entire community this weekend to honor our state champions!
