Christ the King Catholic Church had a grand opening and dedication ceremony last weekend for its Parish Community Center.

Monsignor Donald Zimmerman, the church's pastor, said construction was completed around April 1 on the church facility, which has two basketball courts and numerous meeting and conference rooms.

The community center was built to be used by parishioners and will accommodate Christ the King School's athletic programs, he said.

"We want to enhance the community spirit of the church (with the facility)," Zimmerman said.

The entire cost of getting the facility built was about $9.5 million, which was funded primarily by the church's parishioners, he said. The actual construction of the facility was around $7.5 million of the total cost.

The church had an official groundbreaking for the community center on May 1 of last year, Zimmerman said. The facility took about seven years to get completed because of the planning and fundraising that was invovled.
