The MWE opens its spring season with an evening of saloon music, not to be confused with salon music! The program will feature the music of Alec Wilder and Kurt Weill, including songs written for, and recorded by, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, and many others, with the Division of Music’s Melissa Murray as soloist. The big band sound of the past century will be represented in the form of Artie Shaw’s Clarinet Concerto, with Meadows graduate student Benjamin Quarles as soloist, and the program will close with the late, great Oscar Peterson’s Hymn of Freedom—a timely performance, we think!
