A dozen years ago, Greenland Hills United Methodist Church had an idea: Why not create a space for local and global non-profits to come together, offering a weekend of gifts that give back?
Since that time, Global Village Market — this annual gathering under the trees of this little Austin stone church in the M Streets — has raised $313,701 for non-profits all over the world. From local non-profits like Mommies in Need (which provides childcare for families going through a major medical crisis like cancer) and Emanuel Community Center (a downtown food bank) to global organizations like Heifer Project (which provides animals to families worldwide to help them with food and school fees) to Congo Restoration (a sewing school in Eastern Congo, providing marketable skills for women living in the rape capital of the world), Global Village Market offers hand-made items and donation opportunities you can’t get at the mall.
Throw in homemade pie, food trucks, live music, and dogs up for adoption, and you get an amazing weekend, kicking off the holiday season.
Saturday, Nov. 3: 10 am to 4 pm
