Though it’s hard to imagine today, there was a time, not so long ago, when it was not uncommon to find Zilker Park’s Great Lawn almost entirely devoid of people. But after more than a decade of nonstop population growth in Austin, the bright green savanna at the heart of the city more often resembles New York’s Central Park on a spring day.
