Update: The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for its annual awards today via Twitter. While the full list of finalists showed the same increase in diversity from previous years as the list of semifinalists, Dallas restaurants and chefs were shut out and El Paso’s lone semifinalist, Elemi, did not make the short list for Outstanding Restaurant. No Texas chef was a finalist for Outstanding Chef. But Mexican food and Mexican Americans are prominent on the list, and there’s ample representation from the Houston scene.
