DALLAS – Dec. 19, 2016 – The Dallas office of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., recently announced that its Texas Region President, Ray Sedey, has been elected to serve on the Dallas Division Board for the American Heart Association (AHA). The AHA is the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.

Sedey began his term July 2016 and can serve up to three, two-year terms for a total of six years. In his time on the board, he is an advocate for the mission of the AHA. His responsibilities consist of implementing the board’s goals and engaging his corporation in wellness initiatives, as well as fundraising and taking on special committee assignments.Sedey also supports the organization’s premiere fundraising event as a member of the Heart Walk Executive Leadership Team.

“I am honored to be chosen by AHA as a representative of the organization,” said McCarthy Texas Division President, Ray Sedey. “Unfortunately, heart disease and wellness isn’t always on top of mind in the construction industry, but we want to change that. By serving on the board and supporting AHA through a range of activities throughout the year, we’re raising awareness in the industry. We want to make a positive impact in people’s lives through education and engagement in heart healthy activities on and off the jobsite.”

Through McCarthy's "Heart Hats" community involvement program, the Texas division is highly involved with AHA. Dallas area employees raised more than $50,000 this year for the annual Heart Walk through a number of efforts including raffles on jobsites and a public fundraising event at Community, a local brewery.  Across the nation, McCarthy participates in AHA programs including Go Red for Women Day, where all jobsite and office workers wear red, and participating in the Heart Walk in multiple cities. AHA has recognized McCarthy as a Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite three years running.

“We have a very strong leadership foundation in place and we couldn’t be more pleased with Mr. Sedey’s appointment,” said Melissa Cameron, Executive Director of the Dallas Division of the American Heart Association. “His professional background with McCarthy Building Companies and its “Heart Hats” program, as well as his passionate commitment to raising awareness of heart disease, will bring insightful perspectives to our Board.”

In addition to AHA, Sedey serves on the Executive Committee with the Dallas Regional Chamber, as well on the board with TEXO Construction Association. Sedey also sits on the Advisory Board for the Construction Management program for his alma mater, Montana State University.
