Sarah Hall scores the winning run in HP's victory over JJP Wednesday night.

After a rough return from Spring Break in an error-filled loss at home at the hands of Mesquite Horn this past Tuesday, the Highland Park High School Lady Scot Varsity softball team finally played their weather-delayed game with district foe J.J. Pearce on Wednesday night.  The Lady Scots cleaned-up their act, and beat Pearce 1-0 at Lady Mustang Field.

The game was dictated by strong pitching all night.  The Pearce pitcher, Rachael Holland, struck out 13 Lady Scots, while HP's junior pitcher, Katie Bell, K'd 6, walked zero and gave up only 4 hits in 7 complete innings of shut-out work.  The Scots defense was indeed focused on this night, committing only one error.

The winning run for the Lady Scots came in the top half of the 7th when Katie Bell led off the inning with a base hit to centerfield.  After Bell was substituted for a courtesy runner (sophomore Sarah Hall), junior 3rd baseman Lauren Jackson logged her second single of the night and advanced Hall to 2nd base.  When freshman shortstop Amanda Reenan rifled a base hit through the right side of the infield, Hall scampered home with what would prove to be the winning run.

The win gives the Lady Scot softball squad a 5-8 overall record, and, more importantly, puts them at 2-1 in district play.

HP next travels to Lake Highlands to take on the Wildcats this Friday at 7pm.  The Lady Scots then return home for two games next week; Tuesday, March 24th against Mesquite, and Friday, March 27th against Richardson Berkner.  That Friday the 27th is also 'Y' Night at the HP softball field.   Both games start at 7pm.
