A. Reenan is mobbed at home after her 2nd homer on the night. HP won the game 10-5.

The HPHS Lady Scot softball team may have gotten off to a slow start in their post-season debut on Thursday night, but they quickly found their form and beat Irving High School 10-5 in Game 1 of the best-of-three in the first round of the UIL softball playoffs.

Before a packed-house at the HP Softball Field, Highland Park surrendered 3 runs in the top of the first inning on an Irving home run. But after tying the game at 4 after two innings, and then taking the lead 5-4 in the third, the Lady Scots proved they could hit the deep ball as well.  In the bottom of the fourth, after senior centerfielder Kate Hodges singled, freshman designated player, Amanda Reenan hit the first of her two home runs deep over the left field fence making the score 7-4.

In the top of the 5th, Irving tallied another run on a solo homer making the score 7-5, but that would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get.

In the Scotty half of the 6th, Amanda Reenan led off the inning with her second big fly - a missile that she vaporized over the left-center fence.  The HP crowd didn't have much time to settle into their seats, however, as the very next batter, junior catcher Rennie Orr, went deep herself, sending another HP softball into the night.  After hits by senior Emily Vandermeer, junior shortstop Olivia Davis and 2nd baseman Sunny Bowden, the Lady Scots were up by 5 runs and that would prove to be all junior pitcher Katie Bell would need to secure the Lady Scots' first playoff victory.

Highland Park plays again Friday night (May 1st) at Irving High School in game two of their best-of-three series in this bi-district round.  If necessary, game 3 will also be at Irving High School on Saturday, May 2nd .  Both games start at 7pm.
