HP Softball - Celebrates Seniors and Prepares for Playoffs

Last Saturday morning, at the HP Softball Field, the 2015 HPHS Lady Scot Softball Team concluded their regular season district play by run-ruling Richardson High School 15-0 in three short innings.

The results of this game were never in doubt.  In the top of the first, HP put the Lady Eagles away in order and then proceeded to hammer-out 9 runs in their half of the inning.  The game was particularly significant since it was the last regular season home game for Highland Park, and final home games mean the players and coaches can recognize the accomplishments of its senior players.  And fittingly, it was the Lady Scot seniors who each had outstanding contributions to help beat Richardson.

Heather Hanson, HP’s blazing-fast specialty base-runner, had 2 stolen bases and scored two runs. Centerfielder Kate Hodges, went 1-for-2 at the plate, and drove in two runs.  First baseman Emily Vandermeer also logged 2 RBI and scored twice herself, and, senior catcher Julianna Szuwalski went 2-for-4 at the plate, with a double, a run scored, and 4 RBI, all while catching an error-free game.

These seniors will all get to play some more as the  Lady Scots finished as the runner-up in District 10-6A with a 10-4 record.  They will face Irving High School in the bi-district round of the UIL playoffs.   In this round, HP will play the best out of three games.  The games are scheduled at the HP Softball Field on Thurday, April 30th, then at Irving High School on Friday, May 1st, and, if necessary, on Saturday, May 2nd.   All games start at 7pm.
