Shelby Tucker, a fifth grader at MIS, is one of the three students who introduced Mr. Barton.
Thanks to the generosity of HP Arts, author Chris Barton visited 5 of our HPISD campuses: Armstrong, Bradfield, Hyer and UP Elementaries, along with McCulloch Intermediate School. In 3 days he reached almost 2,000 students through his “Write What You’d Love to Learn” presentation and with a Writing Workshop with a group of MIS 5th graders. One Bradfield 4th grader, David DeVega, gave a great review: “I liked how much personality Mr. Barton had and how energetic he was. I think I will become a better author and a better reader because of him.” At the MIS campus, students helped Mr. Barton celebrate his 100th school visit of the 2016-17 school year. Mr. Barton recently left his corporate job to become a full time author, much like the engineer, Lonnie Johnson, in Barton’s new book,  Whoosh!, which is a the 2017-18 Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee.

Mr. Barton has written many titles for all ages including The Nutcracker Comes to AmericaShark vs. TrainThe Day Glo Brothers and 2016-17 Bluebonnet Nominee, The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch, just to name a few. He lives in Austin with his dog Ernie, 4 children and wife, Jennifer Ziegler, author of theRevenge of the Flower Girls series.
