For over 46 years The Warren Center has worked closely with families in North Dallas to ensure that every child with developmental delays has continued success. They put children and families first through their Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program for  children birth to three, Therapy Services program for ages 3-5 and the Family Education and Support programs that show families they are not alone.

About The Warren Center

This year in the Dallas Metroplex alone, one in 20 children will be born with a special need, one in 89 children will be diagnosed with autism and 85,000 children will need services to help them develop and thrive.  At The Warren Center, it is our goal to provide services to these children and their families. More than 2,100 families each year count on The Warren Center to be “first responders,” reaching out to them with early detection and developmental strategies for their child.

As a resource for the Dallas area since 1968, The Warren Center has provided over 16,000 families with needed tools, including individualized therapy for their child's developmental delay, critical information and resources on developmental milestones, and guidance as parents become advocates for their child's future. Even as our service area has grown from a small group focused on the Richardson area to a large organization serving families all over the north quadrant of Dallas County and beyond, we stay focused on the families and children we serve.

Seth Parma with Amy Teitelman

Over 150 guests gathered on Saturday, January 31st at First United Methodist Church of Richardson’s Ogden Fellowship Hall to help celebrate The Warren Center’s first 2015 student graduation. Thirty students, dressed in cap and gown, walked the stage to graduate from The Warren Center’s Early Childhood Intervention program.

“It was a really special event.... I had tears of joy when Seth was able to walk across the stage to get his diploma. Walking is a pretty recent skill-he started in November. He has come a long way and it was a really sweet moment. He was 2 months old when we started with The Warren Center and [at the graduation] I just thought about how far he had come. He was so happy and so proud of himself when he was able to walk across the stage.” –Sherry Parma, mother of Seth.

The Warren Center services children birth to five years of age. Individual and group therapy is offered for children showing delays or disabilities in communication, social skills, motor/coordination skills, and sensory processing. For over 7 years The Warren Center has provided Early Childhood Intervention to children birth to five, working closely with families to ensure that every child has continued success.

Three Generations of the Kovach Family

Boy Scout Troop #5187, led by Boy Scout member, Jake Kovach, a 17-year old senior at Centennial High School in Frisco, TX provided The Warren Center and the children they serve (with?) a special gift for their outdoor playground. Made of wood and donated supplies by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and Home Depot, the Boy Scout Troop created a sandbox cover to protect the outdoor sandbox during harsh winter weather. The sandbox cover was built at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and delivered to The Warren Center on November 8th.

Mr. Kovach organized, directed and supervised all 30 volunteers to complete this project. Jacob plays the trombone in the high school marching band and designed this project to fulfill a requirement for obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

Boy Scout Troop #5187 participates in an interactive Mentoring Program which includes The Warren Center’s sandbox cover project as well as volunteering monthly at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas. The troop also participates in various volunteer activities throughout Frisco and with the City of Frisco specifically, the Gary Burns Fun Run that supports the Frisco Education Foundation to build scholarship opportunities for Frisco ISD students.

The troop went on high adventure to Lower Mountain Fork River in Oklahoma this summer. Troop #5187 participated in a High Adventure Trip that taught the troop survival skills such as how to use flint and steels to make a fire and how to make your own fishing pole out of a stick.

In addition to survival skills the troop focuses on teaching young men how to be better individuals in their families and communities.

A newly formed non-profit, My Breast Choice, Inc., aims to help women be fully informed when diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.  The website, mybreastchoice.org, guides women through an analysis of their necessary choices in a simplistic way, so they can choose the right surgical path for their situation.  The goal is for women to be aware of the most progressive surgical alternatives Western medicine has to offer.

"Many times breast cancer patients are presented with only some of the surgical options that are available today" said Dr. Nicholas Haddock, plastic surgeon at UT Southwestern. "Great strides are being made to make natural tissue reconstruction available to more and more women.  It's best to make a fully-informed decision."

My Breast Choice, Inc. doesn't stop there.  As women progress down their chosen path, they are encouraged to embrace Eastern medicine, such as acupuncture, to help reduce the side effects of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.  In addition, holistic approaches are encouraged to help alleviate scar tissue, lymph edema, fear and other sources of discomfort for women.

"Our goal is to provide women a simple presentation of information to help them make decisions at a difficult time in their lives" said Diane Taheri, President and Founder of My Breast Choice, Inc.  "By utilizing the tools we have collected here, women should not have to choose from a menu of options that is partially redacted. In addition, the alternative methods we present help to alleviate side effects and thus, make the journey easier."

More and more women are being diagnosed with early stage breast cancer and approximately two-thirds of all cases are caught early.  This is due to increased awareness and diligence in regular screening.  My Breast Choice, Inc. focuses on what to do once there is a confirmed diagnosis.  This information is also useful for those choosing prophylactic mastectomy for genetic reasons.

No one should have to suffer more than absolutely necessary.  Everyone should feel in control of their decisions, choices and healing.  This impacts not only the cancer patient but also their loved ones.

For more information about these alternatives, and for video messages from our experts, see:
