Vintage and Antique Oushak Rugs

Oushak rugs have the magical ability to make a space feel modern and historical at the same time. The art of Oushak rugs developed over hundreds of years in the villages of western Turkey. Usak, Turkey – one of the larger towns in Western Anatolia, which was a major center of rug production from the early days of the Ottoman Empire. Today the antique patterns of Oushaks are being copied in Afghanistan and India but these replicas lack the luxurious texture of real Oushak rugs because they are not made with the authentic Turkish knot nor do they have the lustrous hand spun wool pile that is a hallmark of real Oushak rugs. The most desirable colors are coral, gold, blue, green and gray. Oushak rugs with allover patterns and soft, tonal colors are particularly desirable because they make a room feel modern and classical at the same time.
