Debutantes and Honor Guard with club owner Vaughn Miller

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Debutantes demonstrated the traditional halftime divot stomp at the Honor Guard Polo Cup held at the Prestonwood Polo Club in Oak Point on June 25.

Divot stomping is a long-standing half-time tradition where spectators converge on the field to stomp down the turf that has been torn up by the ponies' hooves. It also offered the chance to gather on the field for a glass of Champagne, photo opportunities with players and horses, and hitting a few balls with club owner, Vaughn Miller.

The Honor Guard proudly partnered with the Polo Club, showcasing a new form of entertainment for many in attendance. The Debs, Honor Guard, and their families viewed the polo games from the pavilion, with many wearing their best derby hats. The evening featured the polo matches, dinner and drinks as well as the halftime festivities.

“The Debs and Honor Guard absolutely love this and it is one of the most anticipated events of the season,” said Presentation Ball Chair Karen Cox.

The evening was one of the season events for the debutantes which culminate with the 37th Presentation Ball, to be held on February 11, 2023.

The Presentation Ball, which was first held in 1987, is the largest fundraiser for the DSOL. Over $13 million has been raised for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra through the annual event, which was created with the vision of long-time League member Tincy Miller, who chaired the first ball.

Founded in 1946, the DSOL's mission is to support the Dallas Symphony Orchestra through service, education and fundraising activities. Since 1998 the League has contributed over $21 million in support of the Dallas Symphony Association’s Community Outreach and Education programs, which help bring the wonder of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra to thousands of youths and adults in the Dallas Metroplex.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League was extremely proud to close the 2021-2022 fiscal year with a monumental gift to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. DSOL President Venise Stuart presented a check to DSO Ross Perot President and CEO Kim Noltemy in the amount of $1,650,000. It is the most significant amount that has been given in a single year from the organization in its 76 year history.

It was the result of each of the member and music sponsor’s participation and gifts of time, talent and treasure.

“The members of the DSOL made everything possible. I thank them for their talents and support,” said Venise. “With a membership of over 1,100, this is how it happens. Coming together and working for the success of the organization to keep our mission and purpose forefront.”

Each of the 2021-2022 events produced a profit over budget allowing the gift to impact even more young lives through the gift of music. Activities ranged from Board retreats, to Meetings, to Fashion Notes to Teas and Young People’s Concerts; From Presentation Ball Debutante parties to Sponsorships and much underwriting; Noteworthy Nights to TASO to Savor the Symphony to AMSOV.

Funds raised will benefit the education and outreach programs of the DSO including Young Strings, Kim Noltemy Young Musicians, and the Cecil and Ida Green Youth Concerts.

The program “East Dallas Culinary Scene and How it Creates a Community” was a sellout and had an overflow crowd. The Chamber’s Live Local East Dallas (LLED) committee planned the program, selecting individuals who contribute to the vibrancy that characterizes the East Dallas food scene.

LLED works to promote and support the local East Dallas small business owners with special projects and by hosting two monthly networking events open to Chamber members and guests. The Rise & Shine Networking Breakfast is held the second Tuesday of each month at Dream Café and a Happy Hour Business Networking at White Rock Alehouse every fourth Tuesday. The calendar of events with dates and times is on the Chamber’s website www.eastdallaschamber.com

2023 Debutantes

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League introduced the 2022-2023 debutantes during Announcement Week festivities held May 25 - May 28, marking the official start for the season of events culminating with the 37th Presentation Ball, which will be held February 11, 2023.

The Presentation Ball Chair is Karen Cox and DSOL President is Cynthia Beaird. Karen and Cynthia know well what to expect during the debutante season. Karen’s daughter Isabella made her debut in 2020 and Cynthia’s daughter Jane was presented in 2008.

The events started with a moms’ meeting and a rehearsal on Wednesday, May 25 with the announcement party held at Stanley Korshak on Thursday evening, May 26. On Saturday morning, May 28, Stanley Korshak hosted a reception in the gown salon featuring many gowns designed by their in-house designer Mackenzie Brittingham. The final event was a Fiesta Meet & Greet held in the evening at El Fenix Downtown for Debutantes, Honor Guard members and their families.

Martha Leonard, Vice President and CEO of Stanley Korshak, welcomed all to Stanley Korshak. Stan Gardner was then introduced as emcee for the evening to announce the Debutantes, a duty he has graciously performed for the annual event for many years.

The 2023 Debutantes are: Britton Barcus, Margaret Bracken, Stephanie Ciarochi, Kate Clark, Sarah Crow, Elena Dewar, Gracie Dix, Natalie Duvall, Arden Eiland, Charlotte Esping, Kaitlin Ann Kelly, Celeste Lay, Ella Marks, Ellie Michaelson, Lydia Pigott, Morgan Potter, Sasha Schwimmer, Ellie Steindorf, Catherine Stiles, Elizabeth Thompson, Lucy Tilden, CeCe Tribolet, Danielle Ward and Paige Williams.

For several families, this is the second Debutante in the family to be presented: Dodd and Susan Duvall, Dawne and Patrick Tribolet, Heather and Bill Esping, and Erik and Michelle Ward.

There are many Debutante parents who have themselves been a past Debutante or Honor Guard including Susan Duvall, Courtney Slater, David Thompson, Lee Thompson, and Douglas Bracken.

The Presentation Ball, which was first held in 1987, is the largest fundraiser for the DSOL. Over $13 million has been raised for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra through the annual event, which was created with the vision of long-time League member Tincy Miller, who chaired the first ball.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League was excited to host its annual Savor the Symphony on April 21 at The Ritz-Carlton.

The event was made possible by Presenting Sponsor SIDLEY. Angela Fontana and Penny Reid were the event chairs and Venise Stuart is the DSOL President.

The elegant night began at 6:30 with a cocktail reception and silent auction for the guests to have the opportunity to bid on individual bottles of wine and other items, preview the live auction packages and to purchase wine through the Wine Pull. Guests were seated at 7:15 p.m. for a lavish three-course wine-paired dinner.

The guest speaker was Dr. Ron Sanchez, the owner of Domaine Verdant vineyard in Yamhill-Carleton AVA, Oregon known for pinot noirs. A brief musical performance was presented by DSO violinist Sasha Adkins and cellist Nan Zhang and a live auction followed.

The proceeds from the evening will benefit the Dallas Symphony Association and its education and community outreach programs. Some of the quality outreach programs the League supports are Young Musicians, Young Strings and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Youth Concert Series. These programs impact over 35,000 area students and are vital as they promote brain development and increased high school graduation rates, and open the door to a brighter future with more opportunities for the program participants.

The Junior Symphony Ball (JSB) on January 29th at Gilley’s was a huge success, carefully executed by more than 300 committee members. Over 2400 students from 35 schools attended a celebratory evening with dinner, dancing and music.

The total dollars were tallied, and a tremendous sum has been raised by the students. At a recent private reception, the JSB committee presented a gigantic, oversized check to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League (DSOL) for $446,000.

Venise Stuart, the DSOL President who presided over the year, was ecstatic and her heartfelt words were conveyed to the check presenters with passion.

“I can’t express how much I appreciate your hard work and what it means to the Dallas Symphony. I am blown away by what you all accomplished,” she said.

The steering committee consisted of Mandy Click, Leah Haberer, Tiffany Rubi, Jill Jordan, Courtney Plumlee, Leigh Koch, and Cindy Syler. Student co-chairs were Nicholas Koch (St. Mark’s), Peyton Plumlee (Parish), Caroline Syler (Ursuline), Kim Noltemy, Venise Stuart, James Click (ESD), Ava Haberer (HPHS), Anne Rubi (Hockaday) and Cade Jordan (Jesuit).

The JSB is a “Purpose with a Party” fundraising event where high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from over 35 participating schools come together and celebrate with an evening filled with live music, dancing, professionally staffed gaming tables, raffles, prizes and refreshments.  The goal is to raise critical funds for Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s music education and outreach programs such as Young Strings and Young Musicians which positively impact under-served youth in Dallas and throughout North Texas. JSB is now in its 64th year and is the longest-running fundraiser of the DSOL.
